ISA KNOX Microfoam Cushion in Shade 23 Natural Beige + Comparison Swatches

Disclaimer: This product was sent to me by BBCosmetic in exchange for an honest review. My opinion(s) stated in this post are 100% honest.

*insert angelic singing*

I’ve lemmed so hard for this cushion. Once I started getting into cushion foundations I’ve been wanting to try them all. #gottacatchtrythemall does apply.  I have my fair share of cushions that are too light in general, too light for the summer but perfect for the winter, and cushions that are too dark in the winter but perfect for the summer. I’m learning to enjoy my tan but I seriously cannot wait until I get to wear cardigans again because the heat is almost too unbearable.

I asked BBCosmetic if I could try out this this cushion and they generously let me try it! Again, this review is 100% honest 🙂

Etude House Real Powder Cushion swatches + review

I had so many feels when I saw this on Etude House’s website. ‘Why didn’t I combine this with my Chiffon lipsticks order?!’ ‘Why doesn’t it come with a refill?!’ ‘Where can I find this for cheaper??’

And thus, a big search for this product commenced. I bought this product after much searching from Cosmetic-Love. So, you know I ordered it right away. I have to say, I’ve never tried an Etude House cushion before. I do have their Cotton Fit BB cream (W24) and their Stay Up Foundation (Sand), so, I do have some familiarity with their face products.

Etude House (and I do believe Innisfree as well) recently changed the packaging of their cushion cases. This cushion is much more slim and sleeker than their other cushions (and just cushion cases in general).

Claims: Primer + BB Cream + Concealer + Powder Compact + Oil Control Powder

This innovative multitasking powder cushion provides all-day flawless face makeup with light and powdery finish.

Ingredients: Butylene glycol, dicaprylate/dicaprate, titanium dioxide (Ci 77891), methyl methacrylate crosspolymer, dimethicone, zinc oxide (Ci 77947), ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate, boron nitride, dextrin palmitate, microcystalline wax, polybutene, polyhydroxystearic acid, glyceryl caprylate, lecithin, stearic acid, aluminum hydroxide, ethylhexylglycerin, ethylhexyl palmitate, isostearic acid, isopropyl palmitate, triethoxycaprylylsilane, polyglyceryl-3polyricinoleate, iron oxides (Ci 77492), iron oxides (Ci 77491), iron oxides (Ci 77499), fragrance

A quick run though on cosDNA shows there are some acne triggers in this product. PSA: Please be aware of any ingredients that may cause breakouts 🙂 While I’ve used this, I haven’t noticed any breakouts (which is good because I wanna love this so much).

The texture of this cushion is really interesting in my opinion. It’s really stiff. If I compare it to cushions like, the Missha M Magic cushion or the Skin79 Cotton cushion, it is very stiff. Not soft or squishy at all. The puff is also not like a blue rubycell puff, so I’m not sure if that puff is also ‘anti-bacterial’ as those rubycell puffs claim.

I have my cushion in the shade Honey Beige and I have to say that the shade is slightly lighter than my skintone. I’ve tested the shade match on my hand (since my hands are in the sun most of the time – I drive a lot) and the match at first is a little light and pinkish but it oxidizes to match after a while. Shade matches against other cushions I have can be found here. If you didn’t know, I’m u/gingerlyz32 on the subreddit AsianBeauty. 🙂

Here is how the cushion looks on my skin. I don’t powder my face since this cushion basically turns into a powder after application. Work quickly when using this cushion since it’ll settle into a powdery finish once it’s applied. On my combo/oily skin, this lasts pretty much all day (8+ hours) for me. One thing I should note though, the very first time I wore this out, I noticed that it had settled into my pores and sat very weirdly on my face. I wasn’t too sure why. The next time I tried it, I didn’t use a primer before hand and it wore very well on my skin.

One complaint I have about this cushion is that it settles into the pores on my nose. It’s not too much of a complaint since I can buff that out with a brush (with no product) but I wish just it didn’t do that. It doesn’t control my oils all day. I do have to blot when I use this product but that’s normal for me and I don’t mind blotting.

Overall, I’m really satisfied with this cushion and am super glad I picked up a refill. I can see this shade working well for me all year round.

AprilSkin Pink Cushion in Purple

How do I explain this…

I was recently sent the AprilSkin Pink Cushion from 08liter in exchange for a review. Despite that, my thoughts are 100% honest. I’m not being paid for this review. There’s no benefit for me in writing this review other than you guys gaining more knowledge about this product 🙂

The packaging of the cushion is super reflective. And pink! Unfortunately, the box is entirely in Korean. But I did go onto AprilSkin’s website and found some very important information.

Just so we’re all familiar with the shiny packaging 🙂 Everything is in Hangeul, so I can’t read a lick of it.

I grabbed these screenshots from their official website (AprilSkin).

There are two ways to apply this cushion. The first way is applying it under your foundation/bb cream/cc cream and the second way is to apply it over your base. I prefer to apply it under my base makeup because I don’t want any cross-color ‘contamination’ going on with the puff. PSA: always clean your puffs.

Above is the ingredients list of the purple cushion. I ran this through the cosDNA cosmetic analysis thing; link can be found here. While using this product for a litte under a month, I did not experience any breakouts. Which is great because…I really like this product.

This cushion is a mochi type cushion, so the product is in between two sponges and it’s pressed, the product comes out. There is a slight scent to it. To me, it smells florally.

On the left is the product unblended and the right is where it’s blended. As you can see, this does tint my skin a little bit and I have to say, I feel a little bit goes a long way. Like, that much on the puff covered half of my hand. Too much and you can look like a ghost (which was my  mistake the first time I used this).

I like using this with foundations that look a little orangey, like my NARS Velvet Matte Skin Tint in St. Moritz. That skin tint is a spot on match for me and this cushion definitely brightens up the shade.

I have combo/oily skin and this doesn’t control oil beyond 8 hours. But I feel like this improves the wear of the NARS Skin Tint (I’ve had trouble with that product for so long, omg).

In both pictures I’m wearing the AprilSkin cushion and the NARS Velvet Matte Skin Tint in St. Moritz. The bottom picture is approximately 4 hours after initial application and I have to say the oiliness I can see is pretty good for me. The cushion doesn’t feel heavy on my skin either.

I’m pretty impressed with this cushion and I can’t rave enough about it. If you’re interested in this cushion, definitely check out the other shades (pink, green, and beige) that AprilSkin has to offer! I’m thinking about picking up the beige shade, honestly, when I need a refill cushion for the purple one.

A huge shoutout and a big thanks to 08liter for sending this my way to test and review.

Thanks for reading~

Rilakkuma x A’Pieu Lip Tints and Eyeshadow Quad Swatches!

I have issues with cute things. I love them. When I heard about this collection, omg. I was devasted. 1) I was on a no-buy 2) I WAS ON A NO-BUY.

If you don’t know what a no-buy is, it’s essentially not buying anything makeup/skincare/beauty-related. However, I had luck on my side. I had won a bet against my boyfriend (side note: I ask him to monitor me during no-buys. Sometimes he does a good job…. …if you’re reading this… Hi, babe!) and he let me do one purchase. So, I of course, went with this collection for a couple reasons:

  • the base cushions looked really light for me
  • I’m not into blusher cushions
  • I’m pretty sure the bronzer cushion shade would match me XD

I feel like these were safe choices (in the sense that I would use them) and I’m super happy with them!

In the entire collection, there were 6 lip tint shades but I only picked up five. The shade I didn’t choose looked really orange and I’m not too sure how often I would wear an orange lip.

From top to bottom: OR01, PK01, RD01, CR01, RD02. There is a slight scent to them. To me it’s smells like fruity wine (as if wine isn’t made from grapes >__>). It smells like wine and something else I can’t put my finger on. I wore Rd01 when I went out to dinner with my friend and it did not last (I had a chicken sandwich and a salad, so that might’ve been why). There was also very little staining.

Lastly, I ordered the eyeshadow quad in For Your Shadow. There are 4 different eyeshadow quads and I picked up the most neutral of them all.

I swatched these without any primer and I have to say, I’m really impressed with the color payoff. This is my second Korean eyeshadow palette and I really am liking it.

The lightest shade is almost my skin tone, though slightly darker. The rest of the shades come off pretty warm in my opinion. I really love neutrals so this palette has a good home in my collection.

Overall, I’m really happy with what I ordered and can’t wait to put these to use!

L’Oreal True Match Lumi Cushion in N3.5

AKA when the Western makeup world wants to make a cushion compact too.

I was incredibly hesistant to purchase this cushion foundation, partly because I am very partial the Laneige BB Cream (shade Medium). I’m pretty familiar with Korean cushions and this is not very…close. It’s a good try though.

The hype around cushion foundations is so real. At least for me, it is. I’m always on the lookout for new cushions, especially if they fit my complexion. I figured since this cushion has a lot more shades than Korean cushion compacts, I would give it a try + I had a ridiculous coupon that dropped down the price. #neverpayfullprice

So, I must say, this isn’t like a Korean cushion filled with skincare benefits. This is basically their Lumi foundation poured into a compact. There’s no SPF, btw, so I’d suggest putting on some SPF before applying this.

As you can see, the cushion is packed with foundation. The holes in the cushion are large – too large for my liking. The packaging itself is plastic. There’s no resounding snap when it’s closed either. There’s also a foundation-y scent but it doesn’t smell that bad. Or maybe I’m just used to foundation smell.

SO MUCH PRODUCT DDDDDDDD8. The puff isn’t like Korean cushion puffs either, but really, I don’t know what I was expecting. No skincare benefits, no SPF, my expectations should’ve been lowered at this point but…

This shade a smidge too…neutral for me. I know I picked up N3.5 but in my defense when a coupon’s about to expire and the shade that would fit you isn’t in stock because putas take it all, you fix the shade match with bronzer. It’s a method that always works. ALWAYS.

I feel like the puff that comes with the cushion soaks up a lot of the product. I’ve tried washing the puff and it’s a no-go. It doesn’t get clean like the ruby-cell puffs. And, I must say: DO NOT THROW CAUTION TO THE WIND. I’ve watched tutorials/reviews of YTers using this product and they always tap/press too hard into the cushion. Please. Lightly tap the cushion into the sponge and taptaptap into the skin.

Here’s my bare face. At the time I did blog pictures for this product, I was having a crazy break out on my cheeks, probably from using something that didn’t agree with me. I have to say, my face is looking and feeling much better than 2-3 months ago when this was taken.

Here, the foundation cushion is on the right side (left side for you guys). It kind of matches, but I still feel like if the W4 or W2 shade was available, it would look a lot better.

I had some pimples on my right cheek, so that’s how it looked covered up.

OMFG, more pimples on my left cheek. This was a really bad breakout.

Here’s the cushion foundation all over. Skin is definitely looking more luminous as the name suggests and it does a good job evening out my skintone and covering up my blemishes.

The cheek pimples again…but covered up! I really liked the coverage of this cushion foundation.

Overall…for a Western product, this is okay. It’s a good step into delving into the cushion compact hype. However, it’s just a foundation poured into a cushion. If you’re oily skinned like me, you do have to use a primer before and a powder after to set the foundation and to keep it from slipping and sliding everywhere. For the 3 months, I’ve had this product, it’s now starting to run out. So, this isn’t going to last long, especially if you use this everyday.

Would I buy this again? Maybe. But only if I had a coupon and if my shade was available. This product retails for 16.99USD at Target, Rite-Aid, Walgreens, CVS, Walmart, and Ulta. And wherever else you can find L’Oreal products, wherever you live.
